The similarity between these notions is that technically, both procedures put an end to a marriage. The main difference between them is that while annulment declares that the marriage was never valid and thus, never existed. In other words, annulment treats the marriage as if it had never existed. Divorce, in contrast, means the legal dissolution of a valid marriage. The result of a divorce is that the marriage was legally concluded and each party is single again and has the chance to remarry. In other words, if you receive an annulment, you are unmarried or single, if you get a divorce, your status is “divorced”.
