Difference between subject and object


In linguistic sense, subject is generally the noun phrase in a sentence that denotes the doer of the action or what is described by the predicate. Object, on the other hand, is the noun phrase in a sentence or a clause which is affected by the action of a verb. In another sense, subject is a person being under the rule of another person or an authority. Object can also mean purpose, aim, a specific action or effort. It is important, that in legal context, subject always refers to people, while object refers to animals or things. Also in law, as a verb, to object means to declare or express the belief that something is illegal or improper. Subject in legal context can express condition (for example subject to review), or the object, meaning, the subject of an investigation, for instance. It can also convey the topic, in this case, it means affair, issue, point and so on…
