Difference between separate property and community property

Separate property: The spouses may agree that the property acquired by one party shall belong to whom such earnings are attributable.

Community property: The property of the husband and wife, either acquired jointly during the marriage, or separately, prior to the marriage, which becomes the joint property of the spouses
