Difference between revolution and civil war

In the course of human history, revolutions and civil wars have taken place from time to time.
Revolution comes from the Latin word ‘revolutio’ meaning ’turn around’. It refers to an event during which people revolt against their government with the aim of toppling the current regime. It is interesting to mention that, figuratively speaking, the word ’revolution’ can also be used to describe cultural, technological or digital changes, if these phenomena occur quickly and suddenly.
Contrary to revolutions, civil wars take place among people of the same nation who have opposite political or religious views. During civil wars, the two (or even more) opposite sides usually form their own government and organize their own military service.
In conclusion, during a civil war, people of the same nation fight against each other, whereas during a revolution, people revolt against the government in power. It is important to note that revolutions often lead to civil wars, as people have different political views and they can judge the same government in a very different way.
