Both terms refer to killing a human being. The main difference between them is determined upon the intention in the mind of the killer. Murder means killing another person without any justification or excuse. In other words, it is the unlawful premeditated killing of a human being. In the most modern statutes of the US, murder has four varieties: intentional murder, a killing which resulted from the intention to cause bodily injury, a killing which resulted from a depraved heart or extreme recklessness, and finally, a killing committed by an Accomplice during the commission of certain felonies. On the other hand, manslaughter refers to the killing of a human being without malice aforethought. Also, the punishments of murder and manslaughter are different.
