Difference between license and permit

License: A permission given either by a private individual or a government agency to conduct certain activities, usually on a regular basis.

Permit: An act of a government agency to allow a process which, though not forbidden, may not be pursued without such authority due to its inherent danger or because such activity is a source of state income.
