These words are usually used interchangeably but their usage is quite different. Sex refers to the biological and physical properties of people. Gender, on the one hand, describes the characteristics that a society believes to be feminine or masculine, for example, behaviors, roles, expectations and activities in society. On the other hand, gender means the grammatical gender of a noun, in certain languages.
